Takeshi Yamamoto

Takeshi Yamamoto

Takeshi Yamamoto is a Japanese documentary photographer based in Yamanashi, Japan. Through long-term photographic projects, he explores memory, social transformation, environmental change, and the relationship between people and place.
Since 2011, he has documented the continuing aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake, tsunami, and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. His proposed exhibition, Silent Witnesses: Fukushima 2011–2026, brings together photographs made over fifteen years. The project examines how invisible contamination, displacement, reconstruction, absence, and collective memory have gradually become embedded in everyday landscapes.
Rather than focusing only on the initial disaster, the exhibition traces the passage of time through abandoned objects, transformed towns, contaminated land, reconstruction projects, and the return of ordinary life.
