Neil Foxcroft

Neil Foxcroft

Neil is a self-taught photographer based in Central Hawke’s Bay, whose work is rooted in a deep passion for capturing the human story. Known primarily for his intimate portrait work, Neil brings the same careful eye and emotional sensitivity to the places and landscapes that define the region he calls home. For FOTOFEST this year, Neil presents a deeply personal body of work centred on one of Hawke’s Bay’s most recognisable landmarks — the old house on the hill.
A silent sentinel on the horizon that countless locals have passed their entire lives, it is one of those rare things that is seen by everyone, yet truly noticed by few. Over seven years, Neil has returned again and again to photograph this steadily vanishing structure, building an intimate visual record of its slow surrender to time.
What began as curiosity has become a meditation on impermanence — on what we leave behind, and what quietly disappears while we aren’t watching.
The House on the Hill invites you to look again at something familiar, and to sit with what it means to watch something fade.
