Janice is a Hong Kong-based Kiwi photographer and architectural designer from Hawke’s Bay. Her practice sits between travel diary and design documentation, exploring the joyful spectacle of everyday life through playful compositions, colour and an eye for the humour and moments that give places their character. Her work often feels like fragments collected from a long holiday, pieced together through subtropical air, blue skies, souvenirs, and hot concrete.
Her relationship with photography began young, discovering her dad’s collection of cameras in the attic and growing up surrounded by analogue family memories preserved on film and VHS. From experimenting with old cameras to searching op shops for forgotten rolls of film, these early encounters shaped her curiosity for stories, objects and details that influence the way she sees the world.

‘Most People Came to Watch the Sky’ explores fleeting moments of whimsy and collective experience. Created during a single day of observation, the series captures how a gathering can transform ordinary moments into a shared spectacle. The work has received recognition through features by creative platforms Designboom and It’s Nice That, reaching a global audience of creatives and design enthusiasts.
FotoFest marks the series’ first public exhibition and Janice’s first time exhibiting her work, bringing the journey full circle.
