I’m an architectural photographer based in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, drawn to the way light, space and people interact within the built environment. My professional work is often considered and deliberate - working within a space, watching the light and waiting for the moment when everything comes together. This series came from a different way of seeing. Photographed while travelling through Japan and New York City, these images were made simply by walking, looking and responding to what was around me.
Without a brief or a predetermined shot list, I allowed myself to slow down, follow instinct and photograph without overthinking. For me, the series is a reminder that sometimes the most interesting photographs happen when you stop looking for them.
