Claire Jaycock is a documentary and art photographer whose work focuses on subcultures, communities, interests and events that exist outside the mainstream. For Claire the camera is a reason to be present – an excuse to show up, ask questions and immerse herself in lives and communities that fascinate her.
The people and places Claire takes inspiration from tend to be viewed as ‘a bit niche’. She takes her time, builds trust and returns repeatedly with her camera.
Dusty Days delves into a lesser-known rural community subculture and pastime. Inspired by the Americas but distinctly Kiwi in nature, New Zealand cowboy and rodeo life includes bull and bronc riders, barrel racers, and bona-fide cowboys and cowgirls - a community with a unique visual identity built around agricultural backgrounds, farming traditions, family and classic Kiwi values.
