Rob Weir

"I am an enthusiastic hobby photography with a focus on wildlife imagery. I've had success in national and international competitions. Recent examples include being awarded the Photographic Society of New Zealand best nature print and Geoff Moon Trophy for Digital Nature image that best represents New Zealand nature (both awards for the two different photos were this year).
I also became a Fellow of PSNZ this year for a submission of a set of 18 images entitled "Emperor Penguins of Gould Bay". From the Arctic to the Antarctic and places in between I have attempted to capture wildlife moments that tell stories of beauty, behaviour, interaction and survival. Photography is well positioned to showcase such moments that are often missed by casual observation, inspiring awe and respect for the wildlife we share our planet with.

We are living in a time of increasing threats to wildlife when connecting with nature brings many benefits. “Cherish the natural world, because you’re a part of it and you depend on it.” (David Attenborough).

Eugene Zachal

A camera. A street. A fleeting moment. As a student editorial cartoonist in 1998, I fell in love with art—and through it, discovered the power of photojournalism. I was drawn to how a single frame could hold a thousand words. When I finally afforded my first camera in 2008, I began wandering with quiet intention, collecting unposed, unscripted moments from everyday life. These aren’t grand scenes—they’re fragments. Random, candid glimpses that made me stop and feel something. As life happens. This is my first time exhibiting. I didn’t join out of ambition, but from a quiet nudge to share. I hope these images make you pause—even for a moment.
Because sometimes, that’s all a photo needs to do.

Bronwyn Kelly

Bronwyn is a Wellington-based photographer whose work captures the quiet echo of forgotten places through moody rural landscapes and decaying architecture. Her images often juxtapose scenes of abandonment with jarring neon elements—contemporary artificial light that underscores themes of desperation, lost dreams, and the fractured narratives of economic decline. Born in the deep south of New Zealand, Bronwyn has a deep understanding of small towns and the disrepair that follows economic decline and job loss. She studied photography in Wellington many moons ago and has traveled extensively, living in Germany and Brazil.
Her work has been exhibited at The New Zealand Art Shows and small galleries, showcasing her unique perspective.

John McMullan

A lapsed photographer from the 1990's recently returned to analogue photography. Most recently delving into the imperfection of instant photography in the form of Polaroids using cameras from the 80's and 90's. Current project focus is old Garages and Sheds being common structures that no one gives a second thought, yet if only they could speak of the things they have witnessed. The attraction of Polaroids being they are one offs, no negative or digital file exists to run off as many copies as one may wish.

"In the Embrace of Fog" is a 5 image black and white series focusing on the interplay between fog and light within the beautiful Tuki Tuki Valley, Hawke's Bay. Annabel Taylor

As an interior designer & photographer I’m always searching out colours, textures & patterns in my photography that I can then use super size scale to create photographic wall murals for your home or workspace. I’m planning a window display with Scandi Designs store in Havelock North for FOTOFEST this year and plan to display a range of Art Deco & Botanical images printed onto mural circles that are precut wallpaper murals. These illustrate how photography can be used in an interior space to create depth, texture and impact - taking photographs beyond the frame.

Donna Keeley

"My photography journey started in the late 70's with my big OE, using a film camera. Back in NZ I became by our own beautiful landscape. I shifted from taking the big vista to being an "Artist with a camera" using fresh eyes to see the landscape through artistic eyes, using natures colours, mood, shadow and light like an artists pallet.
These photos are a slection from our very doorstep and show our own diversity and magic we can see everyday. As the landscape speaks for herself, me and my camera are not just the witness but the creator for others to enjoy"

Olivia Rochelle Boulieris

I am a Wellingtonian photographic artist who enjoys capturing nature and architecture through a creative lens. I discovered my passion for photography at a young age, and with my grandfathers camera in tow, I found my rhythm in capturing the beauty of everyday life.

Crystal May

"I started my ocean photography journey 18 months ago. What began as curiosity has become a deep, evolving relationship with the sea - one that continues to shape how I see, feel, and connect. Being in the water slows everything down. It draws me into a space of presence, where light dances, silence speaks, and even the smallest moments carry meaning. For me, it's not just about capturing what’s visible - it’s about sharing what’s felt"

Alec Withers

“Musician and photographer @alec.withers casts a drifting, drive-by, magpie eye on the Bay, as he riffs on the vernacular, the munted and the staunchly local signifiers that make for a sense of place - one that navigates the city grid, the peripheral and the ghosted.” - Mark Anderson, Arts Inc.

Luke Knight

"I picked up a camera about a year ago and started really looking, both at the big wide world and the moments that I could seek out to capture. I'm still learning and exploring, but loving taking the time to create and capture moments. A recent trip in Europe allowed me to capture "moments", out in nature as well as glimpses of humans doing their thing. Some of these moments made me say wow, some took my breath away and some just made me smile"

Barbara Versfelt

Barbara is a BFA student (photography) at Whitecliffe in Auckland. “I feel strongly connected with my natural surroundings. I am inspired by the landscape and respond to the beauty of a place. The fragility of nature gives this a sense of urgency. The works for this exhibition centre around rock pools and kelp (rimurapa), and the time spent outdoors on walks to get to those pools. With my photographs I wish to invite people to pause and take a closer look. It is easy to overlook what is right before our eyes. Simple beauty is important; living attentively in the present so that we can give our surroundings the attention and care they deserve.”

Over time, I’ve been fortunate to merge my two greatest passions—travel and photography—allowing me to explore and document diverse cultures and landscapes around the world.
Driven by curiosity and a deep love of visual storytelling, I find inspiration in the people I meet and the places I visit. There’s something profoundly exciting about stepping into unfamiliar worlds and capturing them in an honest, visually compelling way—preserving moments that tell stories beyond words"

Alana Aphoy

Alana is a photographer whose work navigates the space between instinct and intention. With over two decades of practice, her latest series, What Remains, weaves fragments from her archive into a body of work exploring shifting geographies, emotional landscapes, and evolving ways of seeing. Created between 2007 and 2024, these black and white photographs extend quiet invitations to reflect on how memory shapes us long after we’ve moved on. Some images were made with clear intent; others surfaced through chance or instinct. What Remains is not about nostalgia. It doesn’t seek to preserve the past, but to repurpose it, liberating memory to become something new. In revisiting her archive, Alana isn’t looking back; she’s moving through it. The series sits between documentation and dream, between what was, what is, and what might be.
Alana is from Melbourne (Naarm), Australia, and has been mentored by Magnum photographers Jacob Aue Sobol and Matt Black. She has been selected for workshops and residencies in Budapest (HU), Tokyo (JP) and Austin (US). In 2024, she launched AARTICHOKE Studios, a space for exploring photography and broader creative practices, connection, and experimentation.
This is her first time exhibiting in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Kate Tokeley

"I’ve always loved photography. I’m especially drawn to the magic of colour. My proposed exhibition explores macro photography to get in close and see the world from a new perspective"

Wendy Brandon

"I am a photographer based in Masterton. I have a Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland. In my photographic practice, I lean into my past professional experiences as a lawyer and photograph places under existential threat due to man-made interventions, or climate change.
For Fotofest, I propose exhibiting 3 or 4 photographs from a recent exhibition - MELT: A Strangely Beautiful Interior. The exhibition takes its title from a quote by the physicist, Werner Heisenberg, who said that when he looked through the surface of atomic phenomena he had the feeling that that he was looking at a strangely beautiful interior. In this exhibition my aim is to navigate the space between the world we inhabit and the idea we have of Antarctica as a distant, almost mythological, place that has no impact on our daily lives to explore the tenuous and uncertain connections we must find, or re-make, in the face of the fraught, challenging and urgent realities of a rapidly changing climate, existential loss and rising seas"

Living in Havelock North and an engineer by profession, I do like both the technical aspects of photography as well as the simple.
I enjoy photographing anything that catches my eye, but find particular satisfaction in black and white imagery. Being chosen to exhibit in FotoFest will be my first time sharing my images publicly - a personal milestone and an invitation to see the world through my lens"

Liv Cornelissen

"I am a casual portrait photographer. And when I went through a dark period dealing with the remnants of my child abuse and complex PTSD, I used my photography to express how I was feeling and what I could not expressed in words, but also how my emotions got trapped in my body. These photographs have led to this series shedding light on the darkest parts of me. With sharing these photos, I want to show that people are not the only ones who are struggling, that everyone has a story, a dark past that can hide in the shadow and that we can talk about this. I hope my photographs can start a conversation about how people really feel"

Rob Vanderpoel APSNZ

"Over the past few years, I’ve been drawn to the genre of street photography - candid photography of people in public spaces. My enjoyment comes from staying alert and engaged with my surroundings, capturing fleeting moments of human interaction and everyday life. My goal is to create striking images of ordinary people, in ordinary places, doing ordinary things. Photos that tell stories about our society and the people in it. I look for interactions, connections and emotions, whether they are deliberate or accidental, that will create a story in the viewer’s mind. That imagined story doesn’t need to mirror mine, because in the end, we'll never truly know the "real" story behind any moment.
As the photographer Elliott Erwitt said, “To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” Earlier this year, I showcased my work at the WLC group exhibition, Our City, in Thistle Hall in April, an exhibition I organised.
This year I was also proud to be awarded Associate Honours by the Photographic Society of New Zealand"

Lisa Jackson

Flickers of Light This photo series explores the quiet disintegration of self through emotional invisibility, internal collapse, and the jarring contrast between appearance and truth. Beginning in stark black and white with images of concealment and fading, the series shifts into chaotic, oversaturated color — flickers of attempted joy that overwhelm rather than soothe. What starts as hope ends in retreat.
Shot and edited entirely on a mobile phone, Flickers of Light is an act of quiet resistance.
Artist Bio Lisa Jackson is an emerging photo-poet based in New Zealand. With a background in nursing and a lifelong struggle to be seen and heard, her work explores themes of emotional suppression, invisibility, and fragile moments of self-reclamation. Flickers of Light is her first public exhibition.

"I am an 18 Year old Landscape Photographer living in Hawke's Bay. I have always been inspired by our country's stunning natural landscapes and wild weather. From the rumbling volcanoes of the North Island to the remote and glaciated mountains of the Southern Alps, I am on a constant endeavour to portray these scenes in compelling and emotion provoking ways, bringing the viewer into a scene that they never imagined could be right in their backyard. It's not unusual for me to set off on a hike many hours before dawn in sub-zero temperatures just for a small chance to capture a sublime sunrise. I am very excited to be exhibiting for a third time at FOTOFEST and share my work with the community!"

Holly Poole

"I am a 17 year old photographer currently attending school at Iona College. I was born and raised in Kerikeri and as an only child I have always visited family in Hawkes Bay where I now have been living for the past 5 years.
As I travel around Hawkes Bay and the Bay Of Islands. I have always been drawn to the old forgotten buildings, some have been left in paddocks and others hidden amongst the forest. I have always admired the old forgotten buildings in New Zealand and as a child my Dad and I would drive the back roads up north and I would gaze out the window and be amazed at the beauty of the old buildings that have been forgotten and I would imagine the story behind them, all of their history and associated whakapapa.
Since finding the buildings that have really resided in my head are still standing the test of time, even after the cyclone. The name of my portfolio is “Remnants of the Past”.
