FAQ for contributing artists
We have put some answers together to help with your planning.
How can I exhibit my work ?
We are looking to create inspiring pop up exhibitions of different sizes throughout Hastings city. To join in, download the form, send with your bio including some examples of your work .

Is there a charge ?
There is a charge of $100 to exhibit plus any associated freight, printing or finishing costs you may wish us to do on your behalf. This fee covers promotion, set up and presentation of your work and packing afterwards to return back to you.
If your work is for sale, you can be contacted directly or we can help with this during the Festival. Any insurance requirements are the responsibility of the exhibitor also.
Here's a suggestion. Maybe ask a friend or business who may be keen to sponsor your exhibition toward some of your costs, we will give them a shout out as well !
How do I present my work ?
We are looking for creative ways to exhibit works during the Festival. Unmounted prints can be displayed in some fun ways , while mounted or framed works tend t be displayed more formally. if you are local you are welcome to decide how you want to display your work and be involved in the process.
How many prints should I supply and what size ?
As we will be bringing the city alive with images in print and on screen through Foto Fest we will be utilising shop windows, retail space, and vacant spaces. We will be matching where we can exhibitors to business owner. ie a Floral exhibition would suit a Florist potentially more than say a shoe shop, but you never know !
If you have previous works or exhibitions available we will look to accomodate larger frames etc into vacant spaces, with smaller works in retail windows. We will also have the FOTOFEST main pop up gallery where we will be based from and hosting talks and workshops, during festival week.
How will my work be promoted?
We will be promoting exhibitors from July on our website and social pages with examples of their work and their bio. During the Festival a map will be available with each exhibitor numbered to the location of their exhibition. These will be printed and distributed to local businesses, and site and available on line. There will be lead up press releases and continuous mention of our exhibitors.
How long will my work be exhibited for ?
FOTOFEST is September 30- October 7th, so for one full week all works will be exhibited and promoted as pop up galleries throughout the city. From the 14th October until the end of the month is Hawke's Bay Art Festival.
We are suggesting to exhibitors we keep their exhibitions running over this time , we can discuss this with you further.
For Hastings Businesses
If you are a local business we welcome you to join in and "host an exhibition" within your premises.
Utilising your shop frontage and window space to show the exhibition (or even within your shop), will add to the vibe and attract people to your shop, keen to view the promoted artist. While the Festival runs for one week we would love to have artists work continue to be hosted to take in The Art Festival the following week.
Here are a few ideas !
- Use your window space and create an eye catching display around your own product.
- Promote the exhibition and artist to your clients on your social media pages
- Run your own promotion or giveaway ( we can help with ideas) eg a Florist could have people send or use social tags their best flower shot !

There is no charge to be involved and your business will feature on the FOTOFEST map and be promoted extensively as a business host , leading up to and during the week long event.
